Supporting Our Local Economy:

Keep it Local

The Downtown Dollars program is a simple gift certificate program that unifies and promotes the Downtown Burlington.

Downtown Dollars are different than other gift cards because of their mission to support local shopping, services, and dining in the downtown area. By purchasing and using Downtown Dollars, you are directly supporting the local merchants who make our community a unique and vibrant place to be.

Downtown and small businesses financially reinvest twice as much back into the local economy as do chains. Locally owned businesses, compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses recycle a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community.

Downtown contributes to a strong community by linking neighbors in a web of economic, cultural, and social relationships. In an increasingly homogenized world, communities that preserve and support their downtown’s distinctive character have a long-term economic advantage.

Downtown is a sustainable, compact, walkable commercial neighborhood. Choosing to do business downtown reduces unnecessary automobile use, habitat loss from sprawl, and pollution.
